Project 1: REKA Project

 Combating gender- age- and disability-based violence through play, arts and sport in Rwanda

The REKA Project, implemented by Humanity & Inclusion (HI) in partnership with Play International and Caritas Rwanda, aims to reduce gender-, age-, and disability-based violence against children both with and without disabilities in Rwanda’s Kirehe and Rutsiro districts. By promoting child resilience through inclusive play, arts, and sports-based approaches, the project fosters community-based prevention and survivor support mechanisms. The proposed research will generate in-depth, evidence-based insights into the types, causes, and impacts of violence affecting children in these regions. It will also assess the effectiveness of existing protection systems, with a focus on children with disabilities, to inform future programming and advocacy efforts at both local and national levels.

Endline Evaluation of REKA Project – Combating Gender, Age, and Disability-Based Violence through Play, Arts, and Sport in Rwanda

Since November 2022, Humanity & Inclusion (HI), in partnership with Play International and Caritas Rwanda, has been implementing the REKA project with support from the French Development Agency (AFD). Running until October 2025, the project works in Rutsiro and Kirehe districts to reduce gender-, age-, and disability-based violence while strengthening the resilience of survivors. Using innovative approaches such as play-based learning (playdagogy), arts, and sport, the project raises awareness among children and communities, builds the capacity of service providers, and promotes inclusive, survivor-centered care. REKA also documents good practices to influence policies and ensure sustainable, coordinated responses to violence in Rwanda.

Project 2: Inclusive GBV Response 

 Consultant Service to training GBV services’ providers on inclusive child protection and GBV case management framework.

The primary objective of this assignment was to strengthen the abilities of service providers medical, legal, and mental health professionals to deliver coordinated, inclusive, and high-quality support to children and other vulnerable individuals affected by gender, age, and disability-based violence. Specifically, the assignment seeks to familiarize these professionals with international and national standards for managing cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and child protection, enhance collaboration through a shared medical and legal vocabulary, and discuss practical strategies for the reintegration of survivors into everyday life.
