The Combating Malnutrition in Rwanda through Sustainable Food Systems (CMRFS) baseline study, implemented by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, aims to generate evidence on household nutrition, food environments, and feeding practices in Western Rwanda.

The study uses a mixed-methods approach including household surveys, a focused ethnographic study with caregivers of young children, interviews with food vendors and key stakeholders, and market observations — covering districts such as Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Karongi, Rutsiro, and Nyabihu.
