As part of GreenStars mission to strengthen climate resilience in Rwanda, GreenStars was honored to participate in an international learning exchange through our team member, Miss Hawa Shaban, Lead of Climate Resilience department, who attended a program in China focused on rural development, common property management, and the use of bamboo as a sustainable resource.

Miss Hawa Shaban, Lead of Climate Resilience department,
Presented the Green Starz Impakt Hub from the Climate Resilience trainning form China, which focused on rural development, common property management, and the use of bamboo as a sustainable resource.
Key Insights
China’s innovative use of bamboo - both as a tool for ecosystem restoration and as a driver of green industries - offered practical lessons on how natural resources can be managed sustainably to protect the environment while creating jobs and economic opportunities.
Impacts for Rwanda
For Rwanda, where floods, droughts, and soil erosion are frequent challenges, this experience highlights that population growth is not a barrier to protecting the environment. Instead, it can become a driver for action-mobilizing communities to engage in tree planting, sustainable land management, and green entrepreneurship.
Outcomes
This trip strengthened GreenStars’ vision of linking environmental protection with economic development. By learning from China’s success, we continue to promote climate-smart practices in Rwanda, raise awareness through community programs, and design initiatives that prove sustainability and development can go hand in hand.
